The solution to keep the color of clothes stable during washing

A common myth on the Internet says that washing clothes in vinegar or salt will "fix" the color and prevent the color from returning to the clothes. Unfortunately, this is not true. Although vinegar helps to stabilize some acid dyes, it only works during the dyeing process and is not useful for preventing color fading on cotton garments. Similarly, salt is used in the dyeing process to encourage the fabric fibers to absorb the dye, but once the process is over, it has no effect in preventing the color from returning to the clothes. If you've tried salt and think it's effective in preventing color fading, it's only because the extra wash removes the last bits of unabsorbed dye from the fabric. The only real and effective way to prevent the color of clothes from returning and fading is to observe the following:
• Use a color stabilizer: Protect your clothes from color fading by using a color stabilizer. These materials reduce color transfer in fabrics where the color has not been properly fixed or washed. These chemicals are able to "fix" free or loose particles of color and prevent the color of clothes from mixing in the washing machine. Color stabilizers are especially popular for reducing color transfer between different pieces of fabric. However, it should be kept in mind that color stabilizers are not very effective on polyester and acrylic materials.
• Wash clothes of the same color together: try to wash clothes of the same color together and keep in mind that it is not only new clothes that return color. Chemicals and color stabilizers, which are used to keep the color in the fibers of clothes, can be destroyed after repeated washing; Therefore, always wash only clothes of similar colors together to avoid color fading, regardless of how many times they have been washed before. ‎
• Wash delicate clothes separately: Many people over-wash their clothes because they worry that they will look dirty or smelly. But for delicate clothes, remember that these clothes should be Wash only if necessary. Before washing a garment, ask yourself: "Is this garment really dirty?" Does it really have to be washed?" And if only a small area of your clothes is dirty, clean only that area. ‎
• Use cold water: To prevent the color of clothes from returning, wash them with cold or cool water. Hot water tends to open the fibers, which makes the process of removing the dye from the fabric easier. If you live in a very cold area, the water may be too cold in winter, so set the washing machine water temperature to 30°C. It is better to use detergents designed for washing in cold water
• Minimizing Friction: Friction that occurs during a wash cycle may cause fabric fibers to break, resulting in color fading. This is one of the reasons for the color fading of clothes in the long run. Friction can be minimized by washing heavy items such as jeans separately and not among more delicate items. Also, close the buttons and zippers and turn the clothes inside out before putting them in the washing machine. This work will be very effective especially in preventing the discoloration of denim clothes. ‎
• Use a gentle wash: Use a short wash for clothes that fade quickly (such as jeans).
